The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a trilogy published in 2012 (although we mostly focused on the first book) set in a post-war version of North America known as the nation of Panem. The majority of the population in the 12 (formerly 13) districts works to serve the extreme upper class in the Capitol.
While watching the movies and reading the books, it's clear Collins drew a lot of inspiration from both the late-stage Roman Empire and the unequal society we live in today.
