A theatrical review is a short essay providing constructive comments on a theatrical performance from the viewpoint of an audience member. In a theatrical review the writer provides constructive comments on the performance, focusing on the elements of drama and how successfully they have be used within the performance. At the end of the review, the writer usually informs the reader as to whether they recommend seeing the performance or not.
This activity is to be completed after watching the Assessment Task Performances.
Choose ONE performance, other than your own, to write a theatrical review on. These performances have now been uploaded to Google Classroom for you to review.
Select two elements that you thought were used effectively in your chosen performance and two that you thought they could have improved on. Write a theatrical review of the performance using the 'Theatrical Review Template' provided on the right. Remember to include examples where appropriate and use effective Drama terminology.
Download your own copy of the editable PDF to your Google Drive Folder and type your response straight onto the template. Once completed, submit to the assignment on Google Classroom.
In class, three volunteers will be asked to show ONE body paragraph of their review and discussion will be held around the positive aspects of the paragraph and ways to improve it.
You will then have time to review your own response in light of the discussion.
Submit your final theatrical review to the 'assignment' on Google Classroom.
