Bountiful and marketable harvests, vigorous plants of squash and eggplant, and a noticeable soil condition were among the benefits of organic farming. These were showcased during the Harvest Festival conducted by the DA-BSWM-National Soil and Water Resources Research and Development Center for Hillyland Pedo-Ecological Zone (NSWRRDC HILLPEZ) last 03 October 2024 at the NSWRRDC HILLPEZ Organic Area, Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal.

The Harvest Festival, an activity under “Component 3: Capacity Building of Hillyland Farmers on Production and Utilization of Organic Inputs,” was conducted to showcase the results of the “Component 1: Technology Validation on Application of Organic Soil Amendments for Vegetable Production” being implemented by the NSWRRDC HillPEZ to validate application of organic soil amendments on yield of selected vegetables.

Additionally, the 25 vegetable farmers who participated in the activity received a lecture on “Mokusaku Technology: Production and Use” conducted by Senior Science Research Specialist Roosbelt P. Creencia. Mokusaku or wood vinegar is the organic base pest control used by the Center.

Both Components, together with “Component 2:  Technology Demonstration of Organic Perennials,” are under the project “Technology Promotion of Organic Farming for Sustainable Land Management of Hillyland Soils (TechPrOFSLM)” being implemented by the NSWRRDC HillPEZ under the leadership of its Center Chief Joven P. Espineli.
