The National Soil and Water Resources Research and Development Center for Hillyland Pedo-Ecological Zone or simply NSWRRDC HILLPEZ, as one of the three Centers of the Bureau of Soils and Water Management represents the national research center for the development of soil and water resources management technologies suited to hillyland pedo-ecological zone.
The Center was established on June 18, 1966 as Rizal Soil Conservation Demonstration Center thru the enactment of Republic Act 4806, and on October 10, 2013 was recognized as a national research center of the BSWM pursuant to the Executive Order No. 366 series of 2004.
The Center's 29.9 hectares of land dedicated for soil and water resources conservation and management is located at Km 53, Brgy. Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal, and istraversed by Marilaque-Infanta Road.
As a national research center, the NSWRRDC HILLPEZ is mandated to undertake applied and location-specific researches in hillyland pedo-ecological zones.
It is entrusted to screen and validate appropriate agro-technologies and best practices gathered from successful farmers, indigenous communities, academe and research institutions, and other practitioners for adoption and use for sustainable hillyland agriculture.
It is also tasked to showcase cost-efficient, socially acceptable and environment friendly soil and water management technologies in the hillyland pedo-ecological zones.
The National Soil and Water Resources Research and Development Center for Hillyland Pedo-Ecological Zone also serves as a learning institution.
The Center provides free training and seminars to the hillyland farming community with various topics about technologies appropriate for hillyland farming.
The Center also promotes organic agriculture through the use of vermicompost and other soil amendments and conditioners.
To further promote organic agriculture, the center offers capacity enhancement activities on vermicompost production, vermitea production, plant supplement production, and mokusaku production.
