DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL STUDIES
The Social Studies Department retained the original logo of the then Social Sciences Department of the College of Arts and Sciences as a way continuing the vision of pioneers. The logo then is just an enhancement of the former.
The general color of the department’s logo is golden yellow which represents all the disciplines in the social sciences. The torch is a universal symbol for education wherein the human person is empowered against the perils of ignorance and arrogance through continuous dialogical engagements with the enshrined knowledge systems. On the other, the logo depicts a mountainous background which generally represents the physical geography of the Cordilleras that is diverse and rich in natural resources.
The terraces represent culture and ingenuity of Cordilleran spirit in the past and at present. They also symbolize agriculture, the main industry in the Cordilleras, Benguet in particular.
On the lower part of the logo are the symbols of the different disciplines in the social sciences. This includes psychology, history, philosophy, economics, political science, anthropology, and sociology. These disciplines are the dialogical partners in analyzing the societal phenomena.
The two persons symbolize male and female regardless of their sexual orientations dancing the traditional “tayaw”. The image symbolizes the goal of education as the integrity of the human person free from the grips of violence, racism, ethnocentrism, and misrecognitions. In general, the logo symbolizes the journey of the human person towards meaningful and happy life through his/her cultural deposits.
