Welcome to YPAR @ EMS!

Youth Participatory Action Research or YPAR is an innovative approach to positive youth and community development in which young people are trained to conduct systematic research to improve their lives, their communities, and the institutions intended to serve them. The YPAR team is collaborative effort of the University of Vermont and Edmunds Middle school students and teachers. YPAR is a process of learning and action – research is done not just for the sake of it but to inform solutions to problems that young people themselves care about. At Edmunds Middle School YPAR is used by students that want make a difference for our school community. We are committed to redress the marginalization experienced by students in our school community due to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, ableism, and other forms of oppression.

Aoife Crainich

Aoife has been a part of YPAR since sixth grade and has helped with the research and analysis of the gender discrimination data. She is currently is currently part of the team that is looking to find ways to support, raise awareness and take action concerning the issue of gender discrimination at EMS.

Amelia Dion

This is Amelia's first year in YPAR and she is currently part of the team that is looking to find ways to support, raise awareness and take action concerning the issue of gender discrimination at EMS.

Isaac Doggett

This is Isaac's second year in YPAR and he is currently part of the team that is looking to find ways to support, raise awareness and take action concerning the issue of gender discrimination at EMS.

Petra Fanslow

Petra has been a part of YPAR since sixth grade and has helped with the research and analysis of the well being and bullying data. Petra is currently part of the team that is looking to find ways to support, raise awareness and take action concerning the issue of gender discrimination at EMS.

Walter Hood

Walter has been a part of YPAR since sixth grade and has helped with the research and analysis of the data concerning race and racism at EMS. He is currently part of two teams. One team is focused on find ways to support, raise awareness, take action, and create a more equitable dress code policy at EMS. The aim of his second team is to raise awareness, and take action, on the racial discrimination issues at EMS.

Myriam Huener

Myriam has been a part of YPAR since sixth grade and has helped with the research and analysis of the of the gender discrimination data.. She is currently part of two teams. One team is focused on find ways to support, raise awareness, take action, and create a more equitable dress code policy at EMS. The aim of her second team is to raise awareness, and take action, on the racial discrimination issues at EMS.

Greta Ketterling

Greta has been a part of YPAR since sixth grade and has helped with the research and analysis of of the gender discrimination data. She is currently part of two teams. Anyier Manyok

Was a part of YPAR in sixth grade and has rejoined the team in 8th grade. She is currently part of two teams. One team is focused s to raise awareness, and take action, on the racial discrimination issues at EMS. The aim of her second team is to find ways to support, raise awareness, take action, and create a more equitable dress code policy at EMS.

Adriel Mendez

Adriel has been a part of YPAR since sixth grade and has helped with the research and analysis of the data concerning race and racism at EMS. He is currently part of two teams. Henry Tornwini

Henry has been a part of YPAR since seventh grade and has helped with the research and analysis of the data concerning race and racism at EMS. He is currently part of two teams. One team is focused s to raise awareness, and take action, on the racial discrimination issues at EMS. The aim of his second team is to find ways to support, raise awareness, take action, and create a more equitable dress code policy at EMS.

Miles Carr

Miles has been a part of YPAR since sixth grade and has helped with the research and analysis of the Well Being data. He is currently part of two teams. One team is focused s to raise awareness, and take action, on the racial discrimination issues at EMS. The aim of his second team is to find ways to support, raise awareness, take action, and create a more equitable dress code policy at EMS.

Quin Gonell and Jeremy DeMink

Quin is a researcher and Phd student at the University of Vermont. This is his third year of YPAR at EMS and second year co-facilitating the YPAR action team. Jeremy is a 7th/8th grade social studies teacher on Team Infinity. This is their second year co-facilitating the YPAR action team.
