Mrs. Czech’s Disclosure Document
At Sacajawea, we are a compassionate community that honors grit and celebrates growth in order to face the future with a level head and a critical eye.
Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome back for the 2017-2018 school year; my name is Mrs. Teresa Czech. I have been working for Bozeman Public Schools for 16 years, 15 of those at Bozeman High School and one at Sacajawea Middle School. Those years were wonderful experiences filled with many learning opportunities, and I am looking forward to starting my 2nd year at Sacajawea. I look forward to working with you. If you need to contact me my phone number is 406-522-6448 and my school email is teresa.czech@bsd7.org (email will be checked at least once a day, so in an emergency or a “now” situation please call the classroom or the main office).
I will be case managing students from the 7th grade “Absaroka” team; my job will be to make sure each student with an IEP is receiving their personal accommodations and that the IEP goals are being evaluated. It is up to the student to work hard to meet those goals with support to improving their academics. The “Absaroka Team” will work hard to support each student with engaging lessons and materials. Be aware that all learners work at a different pace and needs and services will look different for everyone. That means that daily homework will not be the same for everyone. A school agenda will be assigned to all students and is an excellent resource for parents to see what students need to be completing for the night / week’s work. My classroom, E-11, will have the weekly assignments for all the “Absaroka Team” teachers on the board. Students are welcome to come in at lunch, passing periods, before and after school to review the assignments and seek support from the Para-professional or myself. We are blessed to have Mrs. Jerrilyn Olsen for a second year; she will be supporting students with accommodations and tracking progress on goals in the general education setting and in room E-11. We are so lucky to have her and look forward to a great year of support.
Rules:
Each year the school reviews the student handbook that covers the rules and responsibilities of each learner. Please take the time to go over the handbook with each of your students as this is an important document that students need to be aware of to understand their rights in the learning environment. My classroom policy will parallel the handbook. Also, the school has adopted the follow guidelines as a quick reminder for all students.
The Falcon Four
1. Be prepared
2. Be positive
3. Be respectful
4. Be responsible
Quick rules to know about room E-11;
I will assign detentions to students who are tardy to my class (the third tardy results in a detention). These can be served with me in room E-11 before and after school or at lunch. All detentions must be scheduled and if a student does not serve they could be assigned Zero period the following day.
If a student has several missing assignments, they could be assigned lunch detention to support them with getting caught up. This will be served in room E-11.
Three warnings / interventions will be given to students who are being disruptive to the classroom. After the third warning / intervention the student could be removed to TOSH (Time Out Study Hall).
Please see the handbook for other rules and consequences.
Rewards:
I am a big fan of rewarding hard work, so E-11 will work as a team to earn Popcorn Day and pizza for lunch. Popcorn Day: I will serve popcorn all day in the room to snack on. Pizza Lunch: students will be welcome to join me in the classroom for a fun time having pizza during lunch (yummy in the tummy)! How it works is quite simple, there is a jar in the room that has two lines on it, one line is Popcorn Day, the second line is Pizza Lunch. All students who are working in E-11 for CA or Math or Study Lab will work to fill the jar. The goal is to fill the jar by having great classroom behavior to complete the daily or weekly lesson, students all having homework completed, improvement on individual skills scores (Stars, District assessments, tests, grade improvement, etc), all agendas filled out by each student for the day or week. Each time the teacher or the Para feels that the students have shown outstanding or above average day / period/ activity, some marbles will go into the jar to work to fill the jar up to the lines. When the line is met, the next day the event will happen. When the jar gets to the first reward (popcorn) students will continue to work till they meet Pizza Lunch. After the jar is full it will be emptied to start the process over. Please note that the first time will be easy and the hard work expectation will increase as the year moves forward. But the overall goal is to learn and enjoy doing it. Other rewards are certificates, notes home in the agenda and phone calls home.
Supplies:
These are recommended to help keep students organized throughout their learning day. It is always good to come to each class prepared with a pencil or pen, something to write on for notes and a place to keep it (folder) so it won’t get lost. I would recommend that each student have a spiral notebook and folder for each class. Please do not get the five subject spiral notebook as they run out of paper quickly for some subjects. I would recommend color-coding the spiral notebook with the folder for each subject making it easier to find it in a student’s backpack or satchel (some type of bag to help carry things from one class to another). Pens, pencils, extra erasers, spiral notebook (1 for each subject color code with folder), folder (1 for each subject color code with paper) and a bag / backpack. If you need any support getting these supplies, please do not hesitate to call the room and ask for assistance. I am happy to help out and there are a lot of organizations willing to help as well.
Looking forward to a great year getting to know each of you and your parents. Please take this document home and review it with your parents. If you both sign and return it to Mrs. Czech by September 1th, each student will earn 10 points toward their grade. Any time after the 1st each student will only earn 5 points toward their grade. Thank you for taking the time to review this document and I look forward to a positive school year.
Sincerely,
Teresa Czech
