Dearest ISB reader,
We are the ISB Lair, a student-led organization, run by 5 leaders. Shawn Chu (President, Sophmore) enjoys photography and news writing as it “allows me to turn moments into long-lasting memories.” Sidra Nuri (President, Sophomore) enjoys expressing her creativity through photography and editing. Mahider Getachew (Vice-President, Sophomore) enjoys writing and finds it comforting. Ronan Nauert (Secretary, Sophomore) enjoys interviewing and interacting with people. Noor Ali (Treasurer, Sophomore) is passionate about interviewing and photography. She enjoys communicating with others through these creative means. We have two club advisors. Patrick Mccreery and Elizabeth Hartford helped us organize our club meetings and plan out our releases. Our club is focused on providing weekly/monthly news articles about our school. We will discuss current pop culture, photography from all ISB events, promoting other clubs, and fashion-focused discussions in articles, interviews, and fundraisers. Our club is divided into 5 core departments, Interviewing, Photography, Writing, Editing, and Public Relations. Each department uniquely contributes to our club's success by contributing to each release. Our club's purpose is to provide news to our student body. Through this, we are helping students learn about current affairs and community affairs through an international lens. We strive to be compassionate world citizens and believe it is vital to help support others. Therefore, one of our club’s purposes is to create news articles that help support and promote the other clubs of ISB. While running fundraisers, we hope to bring to light various current situations that are impacting different parts of the world. We hope to use our voices to help enhance the voice of others and bring awareness, recognition, and most importantly, acknowledgment to not only the individuals of ISB but all communities. Our newspaper will be available in the Student Resources Area which can be found online is a website that’s via Google Sites. Without further ado, with great pleasure, we are proud to release our first volume of The ISB Lair Newspaper.
MIDDLE SCHOOL HARVEST SOCIAL
This past Thursday, October 24, ISB hosted its annual Middle School Harvest Social, celebrating autumn and the end of the first quarter. This event took place from 3:05 pm to 5:00 pm, and any middle school student was invited to attend via a $7 entry fee. Immediately following the end of the school day, middle schoolers gathered in the courtyard with excitement buzzing in the air, awaiting the opening of the doors to commence the social. Upon entry, groups of friends or individuals could participate in various activities around the school; including an autumnal photo booth, “pumpkin” bowling, and an enormous inflatable obstacle course on the field. After one had made their way to the cafeteria, they would notice festive music playing and plenty of food items like pizza, popcorn, samosas, snow cones, and cotton candy for sale. On top of that, every classroom in the “B” hall was filled with more entertainment and opportunities for students to bond. One could find karaoke, an escape room (with a prize at the end!), themed crafts, and more. In addition, the gym was open for those who wanted to hang out there, and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown played in the wellness center for a quiet, relaxing environment. The entire event was filled with joy and cheerfulness. In all, the Harvest Social was a great experience for those who attended to spend time with one another, get in the Fall spirit, and feel closer to the school community.
TEACHER OF THE MONTH RESULTS
HERE IS THE YOUTUBE VIDEO OF OUR INTERVIEWS!
For our first edition of the ISB Lair Newspaper, we chose to do a “Teacher of the Month” Article. Our interviewers went around the school asking students from different grades who their favorite teachers were. We decided to do this to show our appreciation to all the staff, teachers, and administrators of ISB for being the foundation of this school!
Sooja Boy glasses on Mr. Ashkinos
When the 6th-grade poll for their favorite teacher had ended they indicated that Mr. Ashkinos won by a landslide of 4 votes! Students Luis, Malia, Kaylee, and Malia said they voted for Mr. Ashkinos because “he's chill”. Student Kaylee says “Because he lets me eat and drink in class”. Well give it up for our ISB art teacher Mr. Ashkinos for being the most favorite amongst our youngest generation of ISB students!
The results from the 7th-grade polling for best teacher was a three-way tie, with Ms. Hubbard, Ms. Blanco, and Mr. Forgione all received 3 votes. Jenna Kim and Sofia Kim both say Mr. Forgione is their current favorite teacher because he’s very nice, funny, and laid back. Thomas Wu also says he likes Mr. Forgione because he finds Thomas funny- what a heartfelt bond. Jiwon, Sofia, and Driloha, all vote for Ms Blanco because she’s so chill, pretty, and nice. Well isn’t she an amazing PE teacher! In favor of Ms Hubbard, Will Kanarek says “She just has the most joyful spirit…”. Pujan Patel also votes for Ms. Hubbard because he appreciates that she allows students to re-do work. Well who doesn’t love an understanding teacher!

Sooja boy glassses!
After polling, it can be concluded that the top teacher nominee for 8th grade was Ms. Hubbard by a large margin. A group of 8th graders including Solo Butzer, Daniel Sonuga, Owen Adams, Stefan Tomix, Max Colley, Javier Contreras, and Izaan Syed all come together to provide some reasoning. Stefan Tomic says, “She’s nice to me… she doesn’t yell at me for no reason.” Owen Adams states, “She’s like the nicest person ever.” Solo Butzer says, “She gave me candy.” And finally, Max Colley voices, “She grades my assignments well.” As a consensus, Ms. Hubabard is considered a kind and friendly teacher with a welcoming attitude.
In Freshman year, there was a tie according to polling, with 3 votes for both Mr. Macwilliams and Ms. Hubbard. Input given was from Genna Hafez, who said, “My favorite teacher is Ms. Hubbard because she’s just the kindest person ever, and she’s really helpful with all my assignments”. Additionally, Luciana Appenitis claimed, “Ms Hubbard [is my vote for teacher of the month] because I had her two and a half years ago and she’s still my favorite teacher, and I had a lot of fun in her class, and I learned a lot too.” Even after all this time Mrs. Hubbard still remains as her favorite. Isn’t this such a sweet bond!

Students Jason, Manish, Ian, Oliver, Aryan, and Shreyank voted for Dr. Nauert as their favorite teacher, Following a closely contested election, winning by a margin of just two votes over Ms.Schuff. This honor underscores the significant contributions both educators have made to the senior class.
