Wildcat Winds Audition Information:

Wildcat Winds auditions are open to any 7th or 8th grader enrolled in band, or any 6th grader who has played an instrument for a year or more.

For Brass and Woodwind players the audition is as follows:

• 2-3 Scales of your choice.-Up and down. This is the Honor Band Scales Sheet that will be handed out in class.

(Upcoming seventh grade members can choose to do only one octave up and down.)

• Chromatic Scale- If performed correctly will add bonus points to the audition

• One prepared Exercise from a Standard of Excellence Book (any of the three books can be used) -This does not have to be performed from memory. Exercise should demonstrate the student's ability on their instrument.

• One Sight Reading- Director will give the student a 4 measure exercise to sight read. They will have 30 seconds to look over the music (without playing) and then will play it to the best of their ability.

For Percussion auditions:

• Mallets

  • Same scales as woodwinds and brass players

  • One sightreading

• Snare

  • Rudiments: Double Stroke Roll, Flam Accent, and One student choice

  • All rudiments should be played open, closed, open (slow, fast, slow)

  • One sightreading

• Timpani

  • Tuning of two drums to B-flat and E-flat

  • Forte piano roll and single stroke roll

  • One sightreading
