Students in the 6th grade are in the Beginning Band. Students have little to no musical background. The main goal of this critical year is for the student to develop excellent playing habits in the areas of posture, tone, articulation, and rehearsal etiquette. Students have the choice of flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and tuba.
At the beginning of the school year, there will be NO PERCUSSION in sixth grade band at the beginning of the school year.
Students in the 7th grade are in the 7th Grade, or Intermediate Band. Students in this group have typically one full year of band experience. This ensemble will develop technique and musicianship and will continue to improve tone, articulation, and rehearsal etiquette.
Students in the 8th Grade are in the 8th Grade, or Advanced Band. Students in these classes have been playing for at least two years. This ensemble is the top performing, grade level group at Richmond Hill Middle and continues to develop technique and musicianship across the ensemble. Improvements in tone, articulation, and rehearsal etiquette continue as we prepare students for the transition to high school band.
Wildcat Winds is composed of the most advanced 7th and 8th grade band students and is the top performing ensemble at Richmond Hill Middle School. This band meets after school every Tuesday. This band has won many awards and will travel for multiple concerts this year. For students interested in auditioning, material will be sent home via email as well as handouts the first two weeks of school.
*This ensemble requires a great commitment from the students and parents during the year.*
