My community service project was completed with fellow Blue Ridge Governor’s School Senior Andrew Estes. Our goal was to create the plans for an outdoor academic area for use by the students and staff of Louisa County Middle School, the junior high which we both attended. Todd Weidow and Superintendent Doug Straley supervised this project. I consider this project to be an effort to do something exciting for the community which provided me with the skills and opportunities I have today. The project began with taking a general idea to Mr. Straley and developing a plan based on LCMS teacher Mrs. Granger’s idea. Then, a meeting was held with numerous people to discuss prospects of the project and afterward, information was gathered from students to gain their input. The result of multiple meetings and communications was a proposed outdoor academic area for Louisa County Middle School. Overall, the impact this project will have on future students will be immense, as noted by the charts included on the Action Research Plan page.
The supervisor for the community service project was Todd Weidow, Director of Maintenance at Louisa County Public Schools. Considering his experience with the county and his current position, he guided the project forward and assisted with making necessary connections to other experts when necessary in order to complete the outdoor academic area.
Below are the images of the drawings done by myself and Andrew Estes to brainstorm and develop a top-down elevation view of the outdoor area, followed by the 3d model I created in AutoCAD.
