SCHOOL VIOLENCE AND MENTAL HEALTH
SCHOOL VIOLENCE AND MENTAL HEALTH
About Me
My name is Adrianna Angel and I am a senior at Orange County High School and a part of Blue Ridge Virtual Governor's School. Throughout my time as a high school student, I have striven to excel in academics and have participated in curricular and extracurricular activities in order to give back to the community and help my peers.
I have played three high school sports, and I am a member of the school-run Youth Council, in which I am an executive board member, and I am in the county-run Office on Youth. I also participate in other activities in my free time, such as piano lessons, the water-ski club, and a part-time job.
For my senior Capstone project, I decided to revolve my topic around school violence and mental health. I am hoping that my research and involvement in the community will help spread awareness about violence in schools and to educate the public about mental health.
This is a photo taken of me holding one of the references Mrs. Reynolds gave me regarding my topic during my internship.
QUOTE OF QUALITY
"Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it isn't so." -Lemony Snicket
This quote by a famous writer and musician, Daniel Handler, who writes under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket. It describes how although someone may not understand what another is going through, it does not mean that those feelings are invalid. This describes my project topics very well in regards to mental health. It represents how in society, mental health problems are often dismissed, which can lead to violence in our communities.
I had my internship with Orange County Public Schools psychologist Corie Reynolds. Our meetings held place at multiple places around the county, but we mainly met at the Taylor Education Administration Complex (TEAC) in the town of Orange.
For my community service project, I plan to create a poster and/or info graphic to promote mental health awareness, information about school violence, and provide resources for those struggling with adversity. I have been working with many people in and outside of the high school to create this info graphic.
I worked through a lot of different ideas to determine what methods are the most effective to diminish the amount of violence in schools and promote mental health awareness.
