Medicine in ancient India was different compared to other civilizations. Medicine was gradually developed. The ancient Indians had the belief that everything was holistic or connected. They believed that medicine was based on the balance of the spirit, body, and mind.

There were two ways to diagnose patients:
The first method involved determining whether patients were suitable for medical or surgical treatment. The second focused on accessing whether the patients pain was mental or physical.
Physicians would examine the patient and look for symptoms. Those symptoms could include the eyes, tongue coating, skin color, and feces.

Herbal therapy: It removes toxins with the help of oils extracted from plants.
Psychotherapy: It would have been used to help calm the mind and divide mental energy
This was important because the holistic idea for medicine was considered essential for a long, productive life. It also helped educate the patients because when the physicians would learn about a new illness, they could use this to find out how to stop it. This can also help lead to things like the disinfection of water. The disinfection of water was important because it can help stop the spread of diseases. It also helped other ancient civilizations by helping them develop a more sophisticated system for medicine.
Ancient India and Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is the reconstruction and repair of parts of the body by the transfer of tissue, either in the treatment of injury or for cosmetic reasons. Plastic surgery in ancient India was mainly the reconstruction of the nose. Patients would get this surgery if they had undergone removal of the nose previously for punishment.

Shushruta was known as the "father of plastic surgery". He attempted to systematically arrange the experiences of older surgeons and collected facts about medicine in a series of lectures and manuscripts. He described how a physician should practice the art as well as specific procedures.

People were able to treat head injuries, epilepsy, and more. It also created the foundation of plastic surgery for more advanced surgeries. It also helped other civilizations by helping develop a standardized medical education.
