Ever wondered what kind of tools the Mayans or the Aztecs used? Well in this exhibit we will dive into the deep end of info on Obsidian Tools. Firstly what even is Obsidian? Obsidian is a volcanic rock formed from lava and water colliding. Due to this it has a better strength property than most rocks, hence why the Mayans and Aztecs preferred to use this rock for everyday tools and weapons. Obsidian tools began to be produced and made in 6000–2000 BC. The main tools made of obsidian were Ax's and Farming tools. Obsidian was also used in Meso-American warfare, obsidian was used to make Knives, Arrow heads and the Macuahuitl. (Plaisance)
