For 2 years, partners from Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands came together to exchange good practices on the theme: "how to work with parents on their children's (multilingual) language stimulation". We are hereby pleased to give you an overview of the most inspiring initiatives from each country. The starting point for our selection were inspiring initiatives that are accessible to all parents, working from the power of parents and from their home language(s). The focus is on equal cooperation between parents and professionals where the parent is not just "involved" but is seen as a true partner in the child's linguistic development.

Planting Languages (BE / NL): method to sustain parents in developing their own family language policy.
L'éducation plurilinuge (LU): a programme set up by the government for multilingual education for out-of-school children aged 1 to 4. Click here for a small selection of tools.
Foreign languages collection / Anderstalige bibcollectie (BE): Brussels libraries have been developing multilingual collections for a few years.

Liba Lingua (BE): game to help parents in the transition from home to school reflect on their child's multilingual education.
Expo "The world is a book" (BE): accessible touring expo to exchange with parents on the importance of linguistic interaction with young children.
Workshop "The world is a book" (BE): interactive workshop for parents (and children) to playfully engage everyday objects and their own environment in constant linguistic interaction.
At Home in Languages (English version) / Thuis in Taal (NL): an evidence-based approach consisting of 7 steps to work with parents to strengthen language in young children.
Welcome in the Classroom / Welkom in de Klas: integrated project based on the At Home in Language approach where parents do a language activity in their child's classroom every week.
Villa Zebra (NL): interactive arts house in Rotterdam where children and their parents are challenged to engage in conversation together.
Playing together / Samenspel (NL): methodology developed for children aged 0-6 years and their parents focusing on preparing children for their school career in a playful way.
For you and your child / Voor jou en je kind (NL): course for low-literate parents with children 2-12 years old to learn to boost their child's language skills.
School project (BE): integrated pathway at primary schools for short-skilled parents supported in their children's school career.
Salto-project (BE): a programme in which activities are organised in the home language by specially trained native speakers in nurseries and primary schools.
Open the Door for Reading (BE + EU): European cooperation on reading promotion methods. The Brussels partners created a network on family literacy with a focus on vulnerable parents with young children.
Reading and Writing Fondation / Stichting Lezen en Schrijven (NL): organisation specialising in low literacy in all its facets with a website full of materials for both professionals and target audience.
ABC Huis and Huis van het Kind Anderlecht (BE): building a welcoming and approachable environment with a playful architecture and design.
Bèschcrèche (LU): this crèche is designed to bring children, aged 2 to 4, closer to nature. The location and furnishings are inviting with a lot of attention to linguistic elements.
Checklist for clear communication (BE): how to communicate in writing in a simple, transparent but correct way for the widest possible audience.
