President 

President

The President has the major responsibility for the success of the local association.  The President should be willing to give time to their duties, have an interest in furthering quality education, and possess a cooperative spirit in working with members, administrators, the school committee and the public.  They should be a respected member of the local association.

Responsibilities include:

A.  Calling, presiding over and planning Executive Committee/Board meetings and general meetings

1. planning a meaningful agenda

2. conducting a business-like, efficient, well-run meeting

B.  Appointing committee members and delegating duties to them.

1. Choosing good workers with a legitimate interest in the purpose of the committee

2. Making sure committee charges are clear to committee members

C.  Planning the local association’s objectives, programs, and meetings in cooperation with other officers and the local Executive Committee/Board

D.  Encouraging united membership of all faculty/support staff in the education associations.

1. Assisting in the membership campaign

2. Personally introducing the new staff to the local association

E.  Recruiting, assisting and developing new leaders among association members.

1. Seeking out new talent for future leadership roles

2. Training novice leaders/officers to provide continuing strength of the local association

F.  Exercising general supervision of the budget

G.  Serving as chief spokesperson for the local association to the public and the press, assisted by a competent communications/public relations committee

1. Remembering to be representative of the association rather than representing solely their personal views

H.  Serving as chief spokesperson and representative of the local association to the local superintendent and school committee/board.

1. Meeting on a regular basis with the superintendent to discuss educational and/or association concerns

2. Attending school committee/board meetings and offering input where appropriate

I.  Keeping in contact with your UniServ district office

1. Making yourself known to your UniServ Director

2. Availing your local association of the UniServ office services

J.  Delegating responsibilities and duties necessary for the successful functioning of the local association.

1. Realizing that membership involvement is a key to association strength

2. Realizing that you are not the association, the members are

3. Sharing the responsibility and workload so that others may feel a sense of ownership in and commitment to the association
