Our union members do a lot of work behind the scenes! Here are some of the committees members currently volunteer to serve on to make BSD a better place for educators:
Professional Collaboration Committee - Meets with district administration ~4 times per year to share current concerns from staff. Reach out to Brian Pressley with any questions.
Teaching Schedules and Hours Committee - A new committee for the 2025-2026 school year. The intent of this committee is to review the teacher workday and required activities outside of the teacher workday. Reach out to Brian Pressley if you are interested in serving on this committee.
Special Education Committee - Reviews feedback from special education staff and collaborates with special education administrators to make necessary changes to current processes. Reach out to Caitlin D'Amour or Rie Larson with any questions.
Stipend Committee - Meets annually with district administration to review stipend positions and make necessary adjustments. Reach out to Brian Pressley with any questions.
Parental Leave Committee - Developed the Parental Leave Bank starting in 2023 and will meet again to review next steps with Maine Paid Family Leave. Reach out to Kait Ostrov with any questions.
PFML (Paid Family Medical Leave) Committee - A new committee for the 2025-2026 school year. Will review the effect that this new legislation has on our district & compensated leave.
Dangerous Student Behavior Committee - Collaborated with district administration to develop a procedure to address incidents of dangerous behavior and implement plans to reduce these incidents in the future. Reach out to Kait Ostrov or Shawn Lambert with any questions.
Professional Evaluation & Personal Growth (PEPG) Committee - Currently reviewing our educator evaluation system (TeachPoint) and taking steps to revise this process to make it more meaningful and effective. Reach out to Michele Joyce or Brian Pressley with any questions.
