Homework Help

The purpose of homework is to help students build a sense of responsibility and time management. It can be a great way to for parents to keep up-to-date and involved with a student's daily work. It can also highlight student's learning challenges and provide opportunities to build other strategies with their loved ones. On the other hand, it can also give students a chance to build upon and extend the learning they've begun in class.

Students are expected to keep a personal planner to organize assignments. It is his/her responsibility to write assignments in the planner when given. They are required to complete some kind of assignment on a daily basis. This might include:

  • reading for 30 minutes every night
  • math practice or extension
  • math facts practice (especially x and Ă·)
  • social studies/science extensions
  • writing
  • spelling
  • keyboarding

A typical student might spend approximately 45 min - 1 hour on homework. Special projects or long-term assignments will also be included in the student planner and are due on the specified day. Parents must initial each evening's homework once student's have checked off their work.

Each day's homework is worth one "credit," including parent initials. One "debit" is given when they do not bring their homework or forget to have it checked. (Credits and debits are associated with our Piperville social studies simulation.)
