Section Two
As a smaller district, we partner together as a team with all of the campus counselors in our district, the special education staff, administrators, the mental health coordinator, and mental health specialist. This year, we have added administrative members to our team and invite collaborative resources, as appropriate, for behavioral and/or mental health support.
Last year we had 6 meetings as a full team (though they were counselors only).
This year, to date, we have had 3 meetings, and anticipate at least 5 more before the conclusion of the 2023-2024 school year. We vary the meeting attendance based on the needs to be addressed.
For example, there are times when middle and high school counselors collaborate. Other times, the focus is on elementary collaboration. Sometimes, it is a district-wide collaboration.
Members now consist of administrators, counselors, special education team members, and the Mental and Behavioral District Health staff.
Additionally, our Mental Health Coordinator is the School Health Advisory Committee Chair (SHAC) chair, so twice annually, we present at the SHAC meeting as well. SHAC consists of parents, teachers, and community stakeholders.

Implementation Cycle
During the spring of 2020, Brownwood ISD advisory counsel spent a great deal of time interviewing other districts and making a plan to collaborate on how our overall Comprehensive Counseling, Mental and Behavioral Health program would look. As we are a smaller district, we worked together to create a horizontally and vertically aligned program. Additionally, we created a self-evaluative process including data collection, Beginning of Year (BOY) goals, Middle of Year (MOY) progress assessment, and End of Year (EOY) data presentation, utilizing the data acquired to communicate with stakeholders our goals and progress towards those goals. Our Mental Health Coordinator serves both as our district voice to administrative stakeholders as well a direct service resource for our students with significant (Tier 3) struggles.
