The rise of synthetic dyesThe nineteenth century saw many technological and chemical developments which affected industry at large. For the Turkey red manufacturers, the discovery and development of synthetic dyes, replacing natural materials such as madder, had significant consequences for the industry.

Putting the brakes on fast fashionFashion revolves around the latest trends but is the industry behind the curve on the only trend that ultimately matters - the need to radically alter our patterns of consumption to ensure the survival of the planet.

The Art of Natural Dyeing + 6 Colors to Start WithKristine Vejar, author of the recently released The Modern Natural Dyer, introduces us to plant-based (and in one case, bug-based!) natural dyes.
