Brown's Master's in Management will prepare you with foundational business skills and an ethical, human-centered management perspective grounded in critical and strategic thinking, ethical reasoning and a holistic, global perspective.
With the addition of two specialized tracks (beginning in Fall 2027), you’ll build a strong foundation in management while also having the opportunity to specialize in analytics or project management. The analytics track helps you develop the skills to turn data into actionable insights for strategic decision-making, while the project management track prepares you to lead complex initiatives and translate strategy into successful execution.

Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of key management and leadership theories that leaders use to effectively design and executive corporate and competitive strategies within organizations. Drawing upon key organizational, management, and strategy concepts and frameworks students will gain an advanced understanding of the skills top leaders need to understand the competitive environment, formulate effective strategies, cascade them inside organizations, manage corporate performance and lead from the upper echelon. Skills will be developed that can be applied across various industry contexts. Starting with vision setting and ending with sustainable success, students will learn tools creating winning strategies and delivering measurable results.
According to research from the How Institute, 95% of employees surveyed believe moral leadership is more urgent than ever before–up almost ten percentage points from just five years ago. This curriculum explores the ethical responsibilities and moral complexities faced by leaders in today’s organizations. Students will examine the philosophical underpinnings of leadership ethics and evaluate the ethical theories that comprise modern thinking on the topic. Through reflection, learners will examine their own moral and ethical values and consider how their own frames of reference impact the choices they make and how those choices will ultimately influence stakeholders and affect society. Students will also develop their own, bespoke personal code of ethics.Through case analysis, reflection, and dialogue, students will refine their thinking regarding how to build trust, lead with integrity and foster ethical cultures. Emphasis is placed on navigating gray areas, upholding accountability, and leading with authenticity in diverse professional contexts.
This course provides the essential financial concepts including financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, and corporate finance. Students will learn about the accounting cycle, income measurement, and the valuation of assets and liabilities. Students will be equipped with the crucial financial acumen needed for effective financial analysis, decision-making and resource management within their organizations.
This course explores the design, operation, and improvement of production systems and supply chains, including lean management and quality control. Students will learn how to enhance the operational efficiency and competitiveness, crucial for organizational success.
Marketing knowledge is critical for understanding market dynamics and driving business growth. Students will understand the core principles of marketing strategy, consumer behavior, and market research. They will learn how to develop effective marketing campaigns and utilize digital marketing trends to drive business growth and market presence.
Data literacy is essential in order to interpret and leverage data for strategic advantage. This course provides an introduction to business analytics & intelligence by exploring key concepts, tools, and techniques. Students will learn the role of data in decision-making, understand different types of data, and become familiar with basic analytical methods.
This course covers the process of innovation, from idea generation to commercialization, and the entrepreneurial mindset. Topics include startup financing, business models, and growth strategies. Students will foster entrepreneurial skills and innovation, which are key drivers of business success and adaptability.
This course focuses on the formulation and implementation of business strategies and will examine strategic planning & positioning, competitive analysis, and corporate governance. Students will learn to develop and implement business strategies and will be prepared for high-level strategic roles and decision-making.
This course prepares students to lead complex technical projects using predictive (Waterfall), hybrid, and Agile delivery approaches aligned with Project Management Institute (PMI) standards. Students examine the full project lifecycle from initiation through closure, while assessing how delivery strategies vary based on project complexity, risk, and stakeholder needs. Emphasis is placed on core project management practices including scope, schedule, cost, risk, governance, and stakeholder communication. Through case studies and applied exercises, students learn to evaluate trade-offs and select appropriate delivery approaches, gaining practical experience developing key project artifacts and managing technical initiatives in dynamic environments.
This course teaches the principles and practices of Agile product management, focusing on how organizations shift from project-based delivery to product-oriented value creation. Students explore product strategy, visioning, roadmapping, backlog prioritization, and customer discovery, while learning how cross-functional teams iteratively deliver value using Agile frameworks. The course emphasizes outcome-based thinking, stakeholder alignment, and balancing business, user, and technical considerations. Through applied work and case analysis, students develop the skills to lead product initiatives that continuously evolve in response to customer feedback and market dynamics.
Completion of the Project Management track will provide students with the required project management training hours to meet the education requirements for PMP certification exam eligibility. Students should consult the official PMP website for more information and complete and current certification eligibility requirements.
This course focuses on review, preparation, and basic descriptive analysis of data. Using real-world data, students will learn how to assess analytic usability of available data, identify and execute any necessary data restructuring and feature re-engineering steps, plan and execute basic exploratory analysis, as well as design and create compelling visual dashboards, scorecards, and other summaries. The course emphasizes hands-on learning using real-world data.
This course takes a broad view of analytics by bringing together longstanding statistical approaches to analyses of data, established machine learning algorithms, and newly emerging generative artificial intelligence (AI) methods of exploratory inquiry, with the goal of demonstrating how complex business problems can be tackled by synthesizing diverse types of decision-guiding evidence. The core purpose of this course is to bring to light unique strengths and weaknesses of each of the three broad analytic approaches, and by doing so to create awareness of potential value creation opportunities associated with thoughtfully amalgamating different sources of decision-guiding insights.
All courses are delivered 100% online and will combine asynchronous and synchronous components to make the most of the online learning environment. Each week on your own schedule, you’ll engage with faculty-created asynchronous coursework such as interactive multimedia, recorded lectures and demonstrations, expert/guest lecture videos and discussion boards. Synchronous sessions will occur one time per week and will be recorded for students to access at their convenience.
