I believe that English classrooms are a place for students to explore their own stories and to learn how to communicate them effectively with one another. Learning about how literature and our lives connect empowers students to share their ideas with one another and think critically about the world around them. For my Educational Theory and Practice in Teaching English I course, I created a reflective video based on a strong lesson plan that was effective and successful in my summer classroom. Here, I cover "Word Scrolls", which engage students' prior knowledge and allow them to explore new concepts and create definitions for themselves. Being able to reflect on what went well and what could be improved in a lesson is very important to me, not only because it can help students learn material better, but because we can always grow as educators and careful consideration about what classrooms need to succeed is integral to student and community success.
