Beyond Medical Histories

BrownX

Professor Jay Baruch’s course explores the importance of story in the context of medical care: “In order to treat patients effectively, we must do everything in our power to ensure that the story we are hearing is the one our patients are trying to tell.” The course employed dramatized medical scenarios that help students interpret patient stories, and use story-making skills to build empathy and gain insight into the experiences of others.
