This is the text of an email that I received recently (in Oct, 2023). This concerns a program that gives students applying to Ph.D. programs in psychology advise and feedback on their personal statements. I will write an entry about personal statements later on in the construction of this blog. But for now, this might be of interest to many students. Note that if you are reading this after the deadline, recognize that this happens most years, so be on the lookout for it in Octobers.
Hello,
We would like to let you know about a free, volunteer-supported program that helps people applying to psychology PhD programs. We believe that some of you may have students or research assistants who would benefit from the program, and hope you will share this information with them.
The Application Statement Feedback Program (ASFP) provides constructive, fast, and double-blind feedback on research/personal statements for psychology PhD applicants, especially underrepresented minority applicants and/or those who may not be ‘in the know’ about the application process. ASFP is completely free and supported by volunteer faculty, postdocs, and graduate students in psychology!
We are asking one thing of you:
Please forward the email template linked here to undergraduate students or post-baccalaureate research assistants to help us spread the word and reach individuals applying to psychology PhD programs who could benefit from this program. We need your help to reach these students! Lots more information for applicants is here.
This is somewhat time-sensitive: ASFP happens once each fall and is then done until the year after! This year, applicant statements will be accepted from 10/23-10/26.
Thank you so much for your support!
Sincerely,
The ASFP Team
