Barbara Tannenbaum, Distinguished Senior Lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts andPerformance Studies, is also president of Dynamic Communication, LLC. Dr. Tannenbaumcombines the academic study of persuasive communication with practical experience gleanedfrom decades of work with executives, politicians, and non-profit leaders.
Through Dynamic Communication, Barbara has delivered communications programs on sixcontinents, teaching participants how to maximize the impact of their communications. Clientsinclude Microsoft, Google, Intel, BuzzFeed, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, CVS, Blackstone,Reliance Industries, and Chanel. Non-profit clients include the International Monetary Fund,Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the MetropolitanMuseum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art.
Barbara's courses in the School of Engineering and the School of Professional Studies provideboth an academic foundation for powerful, persuasive communication and the experience ofdelivering effective presentations. Her undergraduate courses in persuasive communication havehelped thousands of students achieve their goals with effective communication. Many studentsreport that her courses are life-changing.
Outside of Brown University, Barbara is frequently invited to deliver guest lectures and keynotespeeches. She lectures annually at the Albright Institute at Wellesley College. Dr. Tannenbaumhas been awarded many professional and academic honors, including Business & ProfessionalWomen’s Businesswoman of the Year and numerous outstanding teaching awards at BrownUniversity.
Barbara earned her doctorate in communication studies with a minor in social psychology at theUniversity of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her research interests include gender and communicationand how power is achieved via persuasiveness.
