Upcoming Events

Below is a general overview of the programming the Brown Club of Washington, DC offers.  For more details, sign up for our newsletter and follow us on social media. We publicize and document our programming, spotlight our alumni community, and share other community-building efforts in these areas.

Want to help shape what we do? Email us with alumni recommendations for our weekly newsletter feature, Local Arts Hero, or an alum in the DMV who deserves a spotlight. We also welcome event ideas if you’d like to help develop, host or promote something with the BCDC team (advance notice required).

Programming

The club produces a wide-variety of programming! Below are examples of some of our recurring programming.

Book Clubs

BCDC hosts a longstanding traditional book club on the second Sunday of each month, with hosts throughout the DC metro region. For more information, email us at BrowninDC@alumni.brown.edu.

We also partner with other Brown alumni clubs for One Bear | One Book, a hybrid book club series in which alums and clubs from across the country gather for a virtual discussion (often with a special speaker, which may include the author). BCDC typically hosts small "salon-style" gatherings in person to take part as a group. Learn More Here

Speaker Events

BCDC regularly hosts virtual and in-person speakers in conjunction with the University and its various programs and Brown's alumni affinity groups. Past speakers include Pultizer-Prize winning author and alum Andrew Sean-Greer, author and alum Xochitl Gonzalez, and NYT food writer Mark Bittman. We also host tours showcasing DC's museums and landmarks.

Networking Opportunities

BCDC regularly partners with the Brown in Washington program to host networking events (such as the one pictured here at the the National Press Building) and panels for current Brown students and alumni to connect. We also collaborate with alumni clubs of other universities (including other Ivies) as well as government and private sector organizations for formal panels or casual meetups.

Social Outings

BCDC hosts quarterly social events - including sports games, theater nights, apple picking, and brewery tastings - accessible for a range of alums, from recent grads to alumni with families and children.

Have an idea for programming or interested in volunteering your time for something in the works? Let us know, we'd love to hear from you!

Refund Policy

Our events are often limited in capacity and the fees are planned merely to offset the costs incurred. To be fair to other alumni who have not had the opportunity to register for an event and to allow us to continue to program great events on a budget with limited resources, we do not issue refunds. Please check your schedule in advance before committing to any Brown Club of DC events.
