Emily Dietsch '06
Interim PresidentAn academic consultant who lives and works in DC. After a brief stint in the sciences at Brown, ultimately she chose the arts and graduated with a dual concentration in American Studies and the History of Art & Architecture in 2006. In between Brown and doctoral studies at the George Washington University, she worked for the Rhode Island State Treasurer’s Office, first on a winning campaign and then in the Investments Division amidst the historic economic crisis of 2008. Following graduate school she returned to New England to design collaborative learning events for a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-supported project that aimed to reduce the silo effect among sectors in the American healthcare system. At Brown she was part of the sailing team, slung 80-cent beers at the Underground (may it rest in peace), wrote articles for the Brown Daily Herald and local magazines, and served as a Research Assistant at the Taubman Center for American Politics & Public Policy. She still misses the soft-serve machines at the Ratty, and the endearingly musty smell of stacks in the Rock.
Corey Lipow '08
TreasurerA healthcare consultant with Guidehouse Inc specializing in data and claim analytics. He concentrated in comparative literature and East Asian Studies at Brown, prior to receiving a Master’s in Public Policy from Georgetown (now the McCourt School of Public Policy). At Brown, he studied abroad in China for six months; while in the professional world, he has contributed to the effectiveness of such programs as Medicaid and Medicare, and has also consulted for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Literature remains a passion for Corey, as he is always meandering his way through the classics. He also likes to ride his bike around the environs of DC and has been involved in the social sports of the area.

Apart from her studies, she was on-air talent at 95.5 WBRU as DJ Saga where she interviewed the likes of Portugal. The Man, Noel Gallagher, and Julian Casablancas, as well as a documentary film-maker where she directed, edited, and produced several documentary shorts showcasing stories from Brown's Slavic Studies Department professors and residents of Brookyn's Brighton Beach neighborhood.
Joanna Abousleiman '09
Events ChairJoanna moved to DC in 2015 to join the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group, where she works on venture capital investments in Fintech and Insurtech companies in emerging markets. Prior to IFC, Joanna was a management consultant in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and also spent a few years in Philly getting an MBA at Wharton (Penn).
At Brown, Joanna studied Economics and International Relations. She still misses the Pembroke campus, Meeting Street Cafe and IMP. In her free time, she loves to travel, try new recipes, and explore the DC cultural scene. She is excited to join the BCDC board, and contribute to a vibrant and inclusive alumni community!
Erika Manouselis '15
Events Vice-ChairErika Manouselis is a foreign policy practitioner currently serving at the U.S. State Department and previously at the U.S. Department of Defense. She swore off living in DC after having spent a very humid summer here before junior year working as a Research Assistant for Brown Professor of Latin American History, James Green, at the National Archives. But after stints at the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations in NYC and the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs in Cambridge, MA, she found her way back to DC.
Erika studied Classics and Political Science at Brown and followed that up with a Master's from the University of Cambridge in Political Thought and Intellectual History. While at Brown, she participated in the Brown Youth Tutoring and Enrichment (BRYTE) program and could often be found on the Blue Room steps on sunny days or winning betta fish at Wickenden Pub raffle nights on Thursdays.
Sean Siperstein '05
Communications ChairAttorney at a boutique law firm specializing in antitrust matters. At Brown, he officially concentrated in History and unofficially concentrated in political organizing, was a student researcher for Brown’s landmark Slavery & Justice Committee, and consumed way too many late-night slices of pizza from The Gate (R.IP.)
Sean moved to DC after graduation to work in politics and nonprofits, and returned in 2011 after receiving his law degree from the University of Miami. He joined the BCDC board in late 2012 and has held a slew of roles since then, including Co-President. In addition to serving as BCDC’s institutional memory and social media voice, Sean chairs the alumni Friends group supporting the work of Brown’s Center for the Study of Slavery & Justice, and actively supports and volunteers with HIAS and Jews United for Justice. A proud New York native who swears by the superiority of his home state’s bagels, Sean is nevertheless a huge fan of Call Your Mother’s output (as well as its delightfully-evil babka muffin).
Jillian Talenda '22
Communications Vice-ChairJillian is a consultant helping federal agencies through organizational change. She is originally from Western Massachusetts, and moved to DC immediately after undergrad to pursue her Master's in International Affairs and Cybersecurity at George Washington University. She has a lifelong love for dancing, and was both a dancer and Co-Director for Attitude Dance Company. Some of her other campus involvements included Delta Gamma, Orientation Welcoming Committee, and the Meiklejohn Mentorship program.

Joe Van Wye '15
Membership ChairJoe Van Wye is Senior Advisor at Cuneo, Gilbert & DeLuca, an antitrust and consumer protection law firm. Previously, he spent seven years working in the House of Representatives, both for the personal office of Rhode Island's own David N. Cicilline (RI-01) and for the House Judiciary's Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial, and Administrative law.
At Brown, he studied Political Science and was active in Rhode Island politics. He served as the Political Director of the Brown and Rhode Island College Democrats, and helped organize a number of events for other political organizations. He was also a member of the Jabberwocks his entire time at Brown, and did as much musical theatre as his course schedule would allow. He still has fond memories of study sessions over a cheese plate at the GCB.
Now, he spends his free time running a long standing Dungeons & Dragons game and sampling the excellent craft breweries in the D.C. area.
Kevin O’Brien ‘13
Senior Advisor, OperationsA bicycling and trails advocate for the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, having lived (and ridden) in the DC area since 2015. At Brown, he concentrated in Public Policy and Economics with a healthy dose of literature courses sprinkled in for good measure. He then had a brief stint in Boston before landing in the nation’s capital where he immediately found community with the Brown Club of DC, serving in a variety of roles since 2016.
After several years working for – and organizing – a national environmental organization, Kevin took a 6-month hiatus in 2021 to thru hike the 2,1920-mile Appalachian Trail. Now settled back in DC, Kevin is eager to help build community anew in our post-pandemic world. You can spot Kevin on his bike about town, or back in Rhode Island with his family where he is always always sure to stop by East Side Pockets and Blue State Coffee.
Khadija Salman MPA ’22
Co-Young Alumni ChairA federal consultant new to the DMV area and loving every moment. She graduated from the Masters of Public Affairs program at Brown’s Watson Institute this past May. Born and raised in Lahore, Pakistan, her background includes navigating the bustling life of New York while also working for City Year and eventually moving on to work in the finance industry.
Khadija started her Brown degree with a position as a research assistant to the Chief of Staff at Watson, working on a benchmarking project that aimed to showcase the value proposition of Brown’s public affairs institute. She was also a research assistant for the acclaimed Costs of War project, which seeks to document the direct and indirect human and financial costs of U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and related counterterrorism efforts.
At Brown, she was a regular at the GCB and Blue State Coffee (R.I.P.), and you could often find her lounging on the Main Green (weather permitting). Here in DC, she finds comfort in an excellent old DMV brunch, exploring museums and the clean air–when she’s not traveling.
Isabelle Sharon '23.5
Co-Young Alumni ChairIsabelle is from Macon, GA, home of the Otis Redding, the Allman Brothers and 50 times more cherry blossom trees than DC. In the district, she spends her time meandering neighborhoods and is often at little local markets or eating out with her 5 roommates. She is currently learning tennis and trying to form a writers salon.
She studied Computer Science and International Relations at Brown, which was a wonderful experience despite covid. She was involved in an assortment of initiatives, including the Campus Life Student Advisory Board, and BWell sexual violence prevention.
After graduation, she moved to DC and started working in data science for a year at Booz Allen Hamilton. Now works with another Brown Alumna (Dominique Shelton Leipzig, ‘88) advising companies on legal, trustworthy AI governance.
You can ask her about walking the Camino de Santiago, your recipe recommendations, or joining her writers salon.

As an Earth wanderer, Zihan loves to see people connect, and is joining the BCDC team to build a vibrant community of alumni. Zihan still misses the sunsets on College Hill, but he is excited to explore the world of the Chesapeake Bay and the Capital city.
Evelyn Sayers '92
Member-at-LargeEvelyn is a San Francisco Bay Area native happy to find herself in DC. She is a Senior Vice President leading teams in International Operations at Wells Fargo Bank, her first employer out of college. (Having studied Japanese companies at Brown in the early 90s and how employees would spend their entire career at one company, she seems to be taking that anachronistic concept to heart.)
Evelyn and her husband and daughter love exploring their new city. They share their home with an overly-enthusiastic big, red dog named Larkspur. Her son recently graduated from college in Boston and is, much to the delight of his parents, paying his own rent. Evelyn loves walking around the city while listening to This American Life. She has been known to write a haiku or two on topics ranging from Egg McMuffins to Ziploc freezer bags. She is grateful to this community for so warmly welcoming this newcomer.
Each of us has the opportunity to get more deeply involved with Brown. You can become more involved, in any way that is meaningful to you.
It may be helpful to think of four levels of engagement, and to recognize that you have the opportunity to move to the next level:
CONNECTED – you have registered online and subscribed to relevant publications
CAPTIVATED – you participate in meaningful ways, including attending events or engaging in active communications
CHARITABLE – you volunteer time and/or resources to accomplish goals on behalf of Brown
COMMITTED – you provide leadership and enroll others to action
Wherever you are, consider moving to the next level. Your participation is valued and appreciated.
