Welcome Brown’s Alumni Class Volunteers - September Message
Dear Class Volunteers,
We are excited to embark on another year of engagement, communication, and fostering class community. Thank you for volunteering to lead your class and help strengthen their ties to Brown. Here is a special welcome from the Association of Class Leaders board to our newly recruited class leaders. We are excited to have you on board (or welcome you back).
To start the academic year right, here are some top-level tips:
COMMITTEE MEETINGS - Class Presidents play a pivotal role in setting the tone for the year. The first step is to plan a kick-off meeting to meet your leadership team and brainstorm ideas for engaging activities and effective communication strategies. This "between reunion" year presents a unique opportunity to foster connections, so feel free to make the most of it!
You may find a list of your class committee members on the Alumni and Friends page or contact your Alumni Relations Class Liaison to obtain a contact list.
COMMUNICATIONS - Regular and informative updates will keep classmates connected and engaged. If you do not have a primary communications volunteer, you should designate 2 to 3 volunteers to create a communications schedule and coordinate emails through BrownConnect+ and social media.
The BrownConnect+ Volunteer Training and access to step-by-step guides and resources make using BrownConnect+ quick and easy!
Responses to email campaigns from BC+ go to your class email box (classofxxxx@alumni.brown.edu), which should be checked regularly. A Brown email account (xxxxx@alumni.brown.edu) must be used to access the class email box (a new requirement).
Here are directions for accessing your Brown email account. If you have any issues accessing your Brown email account, please contact the alumni helpdesk for assistance via:

ACTIVITIES - Engagement activities are the heart of building community. Explore this Class Leader Resource Center for creative ideas and inspiration. The award-winning Virtual Engagement Toolkit also offers innovative ways to connect and interact with classmates virtually.
Quick Tips:
Regional Brown Club events offer opportunities for classmates to make in-person connections.
Find a Brown virtual event and encourage classmates to gather for a watch party in person or virtually. Some classes have held Zoom gatherings after a virtual event to hold robust and engaging discussions.
FINANCES - Most classes will receive a standard dues solicitation in early Fall. Treasurers, we recommend that you send a personalized follow-up email through BRAVO to convey the importance of class dues for underwriting the cost of class activities and reunion events.
BROWN VOLUNTEER CODE OF CONDUCT - As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that the Brown volunteer experience is meaningful, productive, and safe for all of our dedicated volunteers, we are pleased to share our recently established Brown Volunteer Code of Conduct. Receipt of the Code of Conduct indicates acknowledgment. It is considered valid for the duration of a Brown volunteer’s service, regardless of role or duration (unless there is a change in the Code). NOTE: If you volunteer in multiple capacities for Brown, you may receive this same information from more than one volunteer liaison.
Thank you for your efforts to support your Brown community. Your dedication and creativity are invaluable to the University. We look forward to an exciting and engaging year!
Best regards,
Your Alumni Relations Engagement Team

Think of the plan as a roadmap to success. The Mission provides a clear vision of what you want to achieve, and the Class Goals point the way there. Class Leaders understand their roles through the committee structure, allowing them to plan what is needed to achieve their goals.
Sample Strategic Plan - Class of 2010
Alumni Relations will send the dues-request emails out in early October, with a reminder to those who have yet to contribute in early February. A standard email template exists for all classes (see copy below). We encourage treasurers to follow up with a personalized class dues request and send it out via BRAVO sometime in late October or November. Classes that follow this strategy tend to raise more dues revenue.
We strongly encourage all classes to request dues annually as event costs continue to rise.
