You are bound to experience technical problems from time to time with any computer. The Brophy Technology Department is here to help. Students can also always stop by the Innovation Commons to see someone on the technology team or email tech@brophyprep.org.
Below are steps that can help resolve many issues on your own.
Our first tip is to regularly turn your computer all the way off by going to the Apple Menu and selecting Shut Down. You should do this at least every few days. Closing the lid only puts it to sleep. This step turns it off and will help prevent and resolve most issues.
If you do run into problems, we suggest these steps:
1. Quit the app (Command+Q) and restart.
2. If it is frozen, Force Quit (Option+Right Click on app tile, or Finder>Apple Menu>Force Quit)
3. Turn Wifi off for 60 seconds, turn it back on
4. Shut the computer down (Apple Menu>Shut Down) and let it sit off for at least two minutes. Turn it back on.
5. If at home and it is network related, try restarting your router.
6. Bring your computer to the IC before school, during lunch, or after school.
OS Updates
Students must keep their computer's operating systems up to date. While updates can take some time, they often fix issues, add features, and make sure your computer is secure and compatible with the school's network. Click here for help with OS updates.
Please note: Technology problems cannot be an excuse for missing or late work. If you do experience an issue and there is not a solution or alternative way to get your work done, you must see someone in the IC before the assignment is due. Someone from the Technology team can diagnose the issue and contact your teachers if necessary.
If your MacBook Air malfunctions or is damaged, you should bring it to the Technology Center in the Information Commons for assistance or email tech@brophyprep.org. Basic technical assistance is provided by Brophy staff on campus. However, if you physically damage your computer or there is a larger hardware or software issue, it will need to be sent in for repair through our warranty program. You will be issued a loaner while the repair is made.
Even with the best care, we know that sometimes accidents happen. Because of this, the computers are covered by a warranty for all four years, including accidental and liquid damage. There is no charge for the first repair for accidental or liquid damage. Any subsequent repairs for accidental or liquid damage will require a $50 deductible to be paid by the student's family. Theft, lost computers and intentional damage are not covered under the warranty and would require purchase of a new computer at the original full price.
Brophy reserves the right to charge full price for repair/replacement if you take your case off of the computer, or if it is determined that the damage was caused intentionally or through extreme carelessness. The case is not covered by this warranty. If it is damaged or becomes inoperable, you will need to replace it on your own or for $15 in the Varsity Shop.
Again, accidents happen. So it is important to make sure that your MacBook Air backs up all school files to Google Drive, which is covered in training. Should you need to replace your MacBook Air, we can help you restore your files if everything was backed up correctly.
If you ever have any questions or need assistance of any kind, you are always welcome to come to the Innovation Commons to see someone on the technology team, or you can email tech@brophyprep.org. When you email please include as much information as possible about your problem. Screenshots can be helpful.
