iReady: Reading and Math Work

Students are able to continue to work in iReady on both Reading and Math. Directions to login through TeachHub are below. Students can also login directly to iReady through the iReady Connect website.

Summer Reading:

Students are encouraged to read the texts below o get a head start on next year's curriculum. These books are available at the bookstore, at online retailers, at the Brooklyn Public Library, or digitally at the links below.

Specialized High Schools Prep:

Rising 8th grade students who are interested in applying to a Specialized High School in the fall must take the SHSAT Assessment. Students should prepare for the assessment by reviewing this website and completing the practice assessments.

Summer Program Resources:

The best way to keep your brain working is to engage in real-world learning! We do this by experiencing the world around us - and we live in the best place in the world for this, New York City! Below is a list of cultural locations throughout the five boroughs that you access for free or at little cost this summer! Check it out!

New York residents (with ID): The amount you pay for General Admission only is up to you. (Minimum $.01 per person).

Free tickets available for Wednesdays, sign up online starting Monday, restrictions apply.

Families can reserve free Community Tickets for any day of the week. See their website under the heading "Free Admission Opportunities". BBG will accept Student + 3 vouchers through the end of June.

Free Friday Community Hours 2pm-5pm

Free Wednesdays after 3pm. To reserve tickets, sign up online starting Monday, restrictions apply.

Free to NYC residents Wednesdays 10 - 11am.

April 1- Dec. 15 free hours every Wednesday from 3-6pm and Sundays from 9-11am

Free Wednesdays 2pm - 4:45pm

6th Grade Science:

A bug's life: learn about different insects and make predictions as to which predator will survive during a battle as you watch Top 10 Bug Fights. This assignment will help to refresh your understanding of predator & prey relationships, as well as the ecology of insects.

7th Grade Science:

How do cells differ from Viruses? Learn about the battle for our health by watching  Cells vs Virus. Complete Think, Dig Deeper & Discuss to review your understanding and progress. This assignment will prepare you to describe the function of a cell as well as ways parts of cells contribute to the function and how viruses affect our cells and ultimately our bodies. 

8th Grade Science:

Read Modes of Reproduction. This assignment will help prepare you to understand sexual & asexual reproduction. 

Minecraft in Education:

Exploring Minecraft for Education. Students can try the Demo or use their DOE.net email to complete one of the Science  activities  in Minecraft. The science activities range from Cells to biomes and more.
