At OxBAR-Lab, we believe that research is stronger when it is developed with the people it is intended to benefit. We work closely with public contributors throughout the research process, helping to shape research questions, study materials, interventions, and the interpretation of findings.
Public involvement ensures that our research remains relevant, accessible, and grounded in real-world experiences. We are grateful to the individuals who generously share their time, expertise, and perspectives with us.
“I became a public adviser on the SPACES project because I wanted to be a bridge between academic research and the reality of being a mid-life woman. My own social life has always revolved around alcohol, but as I'm navigating a busy job and the challenges of perimenopause, I've become increasingly conscious of protecting my health and my desire to cut down my alcohol intake has increased. For me, the main appeal of SPACES is how it uses personal stories from real women who have successfully achieved what I want to achieve: reducing their alcohol consumption while staying happy, healthy, and never feeling like they're missing out.”
