Latest update: Guidance on how to upload marks from Moodle to Banner using Coursework is available.
Coursework (new moodle tool) used for all Summative assessments, Turnitin Assignment 2 used for ‘Draft Dropboxes’ (both are integrated with Turnitin).
When student upload their summative assessment they now have the option to either submit or submit and finalise. If students choose to 'Submit', they will be able to edit their submission until the deadline. That means that markers won't be able to mark until the deadline passes, which is when submissions (that haven't been finalised by the students themselves) are auto-finalised. If a student clicks 'Submit and finalise' before the deadline the submission is no longer editable and the markers can start marking right away.
In any case, students won’t see an originality percentage nor an originality report in summative dropboxes until grades/feedback have been released.
Originality reports are still visible in formative/draft dropboxes to allow students to be able to check their work for academic integrity issues.
All summative assessments will be recorded in Moodle for Module runs that commence from September 2025 using the Coursework tool.
For modules that started last semester and finish in December 2025 (ie Semester 2, 3 and 1), Module Leaders will need to continue using Turnitin Assignment 2 in Moodle and not Coursework and set up those dropboxes manually.
Coursework Dropboxes will be created for you, based on the gradable component data in Banner, you just need to update a few settings e.g. description, assessment due date and feedback release date. You should see the dropboxes in the Assessment section of your module in Moodle by Week 0.
One dropbox created for each gradable component, students extension automated on an based on sync with Exceptional Circumstance system and ISP data.
The should always be one gradable per assessment. If you have multiple assessments/submissions and only one gradable component then you need to use a manual process to support this until you can update this in Banner during next validation cycle, but you be expected to the Coursework dropbox for the main mark entry.
If you believe your assessment does not fit the new functionality, we will have an exceptions process where your assessment will be reviewed by the project team and if required can be authorised to use an Turnitin Assessment dropbox.
Coursework has new functionality that allows you to moderate submissions within the dropbox and easily identify which students have the blue card adjustment in their ISP whether the dropbox is anonymous or not.
‘Queue marks to transfer’ (Transferring marks from Moodle to Banner) can take up to 5 mins for them appear in Banner. Therefore near the mark upload deadline, you need leave yourself enough time to ensure marks are submitted to Banner.
All Moodle-related issues should be managed through ServiceNow tickets, these will be instantly directed to the correct support team
