Moodle is our virtual learning environment (or VLE) for teaching, learning and Assessment. Each programme and module will have a Moodle site. We also have an Induction Moodle site, which you will be able to access once you have completed online enrolment.
More information about how to use Moodle can be found on our Moodle Student Webpage.
We use the Google suite for email and other chat, meeting and document sharing functions (Google Mail, Google Meet, Google Chat, Google Drive, Google Calendar). If we need to tell you anything important about your study, we’ll use your Brookes email and your Student Information pages (see below) to get the messages to you. Please make sure you check your University email account (your student ID@brookes.ac.uk) and your record in the Student Information system regularly, so that you don’t miss any important messages about your programme or student status.
More information about Email, Calendar and the suite of Google apps can be found on our Brookes Email and Calendar webpage.
The Student Information system is where you can manage your programme and personal details, and where your module results will be formally published. You will need to use this system to register your modules for each academic year.
Information on how to access Student Information can be found on our New Student webpages.
It is possible for you to borrow a Google Chromebook on short term loan for a certain number of hours. This is useful if you need a laptop in a lecture or if you are getting together in a group and you don’t have access to a laptop on campus.
A Chromebook is a different type of laptop. It runs a web browser (Google Chrome) and nothing else. Chromebooks are ideal for email, web searches, accessing the Virtual Learning Environment, searching library databases - in fact, pretty much anything that is internet-based. Because it is web-based, it runs Google's own applications which include word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and, of course, Google Mail.
They are available to borrow for free from the self-service cabinets at the Headington campus (JHBB Forum), or ask at the reception desk to borrow a Chromebook at Harcourt Hill library. You will need to bring your student ID card.
More information can be found on our website here: Borrow a Chromebook.
