How School Counselors Help

Individual Counseling

This is brief counseling that happens with students individually, to help with problems or situations.  This is not to take the place of professional therapy, if needed, but tries to help the student in the school setting.

 Group Counseling

Often times group counseling can help a student know that there are others facing similar issues or problems and not feel alone. Group counseling at school is also brief counseling, in a setting where multiple students meet together with the Counselor, experiencing counseling help and help from peers.

Crisis Counseling

There may be times that students face a crisis situation individually, as a family, or even as a school.  The Counselor is here to help in these difficult times.

Academics/College and Career Readiness

The Counselor is here to help students understand themselves, how the knowledge and skills learned at school applies to their future, and how they can work hard to reach their college and career goals! Academic support happens through encouraging school attendance and academic progress, classroom lessons, check-ins, Advisement, and in-person or virtual visits with colleges and technical schools.

Healthy Relationships with Self and Others

Counselors help students understand they are are amazing and that they deserve feel good about themselves! Counselors help students learn safe choices and connect with others in healthy ways through building hope, friendship skills, resilience, protective factors, drug prevention skills, and increasing self-esteem!

Supporting Our School

There are many ways the Counselor supports what is happening at school!  This can be through classroom lessons, academic and behavior support, working with teachers and administrators, meeting with parents, and helping out all around our building!  You will see the Counselor around a lot and can look forward to a caring smile to brighten your day!

School Counselors follow State Law, School Board Policy, and the American School Counseling Association's Ethical Standards. In accordance with these, Counselors keep what is shared as confidential except for issues of safety, such as harm to self or others, court order, or other professional needs. Counselors recognize and value the trust of students, parents, and staff in working together to do what is best for each student!
