Brodhead School District Library Mission and Vision
In support of the District's commitment to educational excellence, the library program collects, organizes and facilitates access to information resources in many formats. Because teaching is at the heart of what a school library represents, the library program supports teaching, learning and research in an intellectually and culturally open environment, providing instruction and resources in the use of traditional and new information technologies that enhance and reinforce the school curriculum.
Our library program is central to the fulfillment of instructional goals and objectives of our school and our community. It will be an inviting, accessible and stimulating environment for meeting the information needs of the TOTAL school community.
Brodhead School District Library Program Purpose
The Brodhead School Library Program will promote information literacy skills, independent learning, and social responsibility by helping students access, synthesize, produce and communicate the information they are surrounded by in this information-rich world. This will help to ensure our students are literate and possess the knowledge and skills necessary to compete in a global economy.
ensure each student has the ability to find, evaluate and use information from various sources
support students as they learn to read with a rich and varied collection of materials that provide a diverse selection for both recreational and assigned reading while creating students who love to read
provide support to staff and students on changing technologies
support and provide resources for teachers as they work to improve student achievement
help guide every student to become informed thinkers, self-directed learners, contributing citizens, information processors, and lifelong learners
As the Brodhead School District moves forward into our ever-changing world the library program will need to be the learning hub for the entire school community. To achieve this the library will need to have goals and responsibilities aligned not only with the District's but also will need to be aligned within the Future Ready Framework. This movement will help guide our District and address areas of strength and growth.
To develop a library plan the Future Ready Library framework was used to assess and analyze our program within each wedge. Having this plan will allow for our library program to effectively increase student achievement, provide equitable resources to all, and be a key collaborative part of the District's learning initiatives. This site acts as a dynamic format of the plan and contains pages that represent each of the "wedges" of the Future Ready Librarian framework that all lead to learner-centered literacy. Each page contains a short description of the wedge, along with what is currently being done in the BSD Library program, possible areas for growth, and links to artifacts when applicable.
