Curriculum Overview
Year 6
Year 6
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Block 5 in Year 6 – an exciting and thought-provoking term filled with meaningful learning across the curriculum!
In English, pupils will explore environmental themes through Plastic Planet and learn about the inspiring work of Greta Thunberg. These texts will encourage critical thinking, persuasive writing, and passionate discussion about protecting our planet.
In Maths, we will be focusing on area, perimeter and volume, as well as developing our understanding of statistics. Pupils will apply their knowledge to solve real-life problems and interpret data with confidence.
In Humanities (Geography), our unit What the Ocean Gives Us (PlanBee) will help children understand the importance of oceans to our planet — from natural resources and trade to climate regulation and biodiversity.
In Science, students will learn about the circulatory system, exploring how the heart and blood vessels work together to keep us alive and healthy. They will also examine the impact of diet, drugs, and lifestyle on the human body.
Our PSHE (Jigsaw) focus this block is “Relationships,” where pupils will reflect on friendships, respect, conflict resolution, and building positive connections with others.
Children have been allocated to either swimming or dance based on the preference indicated on the returned forms. Final allocations will be confirmed during Week 1 of Block 5.
Please note that pupils allocated to swimming are expected to participate fully in all sessions. If a child misses three swimming sessions, they will be reassigned to dance for the remainder of the term.
We are looking forward to another purposeful and engaging term. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
With warm wishes,
The Year 6 Team
