Food: you need about 3500 calories per day.
Breakfasts
‘Instant’ porridge: We recommend the Microwave pouches - these just ened boiling water poured over, stirred and left for a minute. DON't bring porridge pots - these crack and break in bags too easily and cover your kit, which if slightly damp, then turns to porridge on your kit!
Cereal/breakfast bars
Tea / hot chocolate.
Day time
Lunch: oat cakes are my go to . Lightweight, nutrious.
Smoked cheese, Pepperami /Baby Bels, chorizo/ jerky / Tuna mixes (John West to a little Jacket potato topper which works quite well, or a small tin of tuna mayo.
Wraps are heavy and can go mouldy in heat - as do flatbreads and pittas.
Snacks: flapjacks, cereal bars, nuts, dried fruit, Jelly Babies, chocolate (does melt!), apples. NOT bananas (unless you want a bag full of banana mush).
Evening Meals
(Check calories – aim for 600 - 800)
Flavoured CousCous (put in a resealable freezer bag)
Supernoodles (ideally NOT Pot Noodles - same issue as the porridge pots
Boil in the Bag – e.g. Wayfayrer - or ‘Microwave in the Bag’ works as well (you simply put the pouch in boiling water and heat through for 10 minutes Uncle Ben Chilli no Carne is pretty good!
Dehydrated meals: there are lots of brands available, e.g. Firepot, Adventure Food, more expensive, but a good option for the third night of Gold to keep weight down?
Pasta stir in sauces with pasta (no glass jars) - but you'll have to wash up
Tea, hot chocolate
(NO frying)
