STREAM Camp
Over the 2023 summer break, we held a 5-day "STREAM" camp for kids 3rd- 8th grade! Our Robotics Club members acted as camp counselors along with planning the week-long camp activities. Members created a fun learning environment to give the children an introduction to STREAM and explore cool experiments such as creating the TALLest structure, Virtual reality, designing/launching water bottle rockets, oobleck, and coding Lego Mindstorm robots! Members also led the kids in designing 3D prints and TinkerCAD (coding) creations. All funds earned went towards our Robotics Club wishlist in preparation for the upcoming Coco Best Robotics Competition in October.
In March of 2022, we held a "Robotics Night" where children with an interest in the STEM field could come and see what robotics was all about. Our High School Robotics club members set up independent stations in which they demonstrated their creations from the year along with hands-on activities for the kids and their parents, some of which included a circuit builder and a sparky bot game that followed a course similar to our Best Robotics competition layout. "Robotics Night" was a fun experience for the kids as well as for us, as we assembled together to share our love for STEM!
In May, we took a trip down to the Blue Ridge Elementary School and presented to grades K-5. We showed off our various creations as well as the tools we used to make said creations. We explained the science behind the technology we used, and even got a few volunteers to get involved. One of our team leaders introduced drones to the crowd and got tons of applause! Another showcased their very own robot, and wowed the audience. It was a great day for the robotics club and the elementary kids, who learned something new about robotics and engineering.
On September 24th, we held a carwash at the front entrance of the Blue Ridge High School, followed by a potluck soon after. These events offered an opportunity for the Robotics program to raise money while providing for the community at the same time. This event also helped spread the good word about the robotics program and has gotten the interest of many aspiring STEM engineers.
