This page contains basic definitions of words meant to help facilitate communication and understanding.
Respondent: The person you are speaking to to conduct surveys with.
VPN: Virtual Private Network - You can think of this as a connection between yourself, and our private network which holds our servers, such as Vici Dial, and the SIP Phones.
ISP: Internet Service Provider - The company that provides internet for a customer, for example Comcast, Cox, Verizon.
Whitelist: A list of IPv4 addresses that are allowed to enter our private network and communicate without servers, without the need of a VPN Connection.
IPv4: Internet Protocol Version 4 - Think of this as your street address on the internet. It would look something like 192.0.20.230
Vici Dial: Our website used for dialing, and conducting surveys.
Mattermost: A website based instant messenger used for internal communication.
VoIP: See SIP -
SIP: Session Initiation Protocol, can be used to refer to the phone that uses it, in our case a software phone, sometimes used as Smart Ip Phone. This works closely with Vicidial.
Buttons / BRI Buttons: Software created by BRI IT Dept that can be used as a controller for various work related tasks.
Mesh /Mesh Agent / Mesh Central: Software, used primarily by the monitoring department for quality control purposes.
When I Work: A company, and more commonly a website used by braun to keep track of payable / clocked hours. Make sure you clock in before starting any work!
BRI Portal / BR Interviewing Help Portal: This website, run by IT to host information we or other departments hope is useful.
GUI: Graphic user Interface, the visual interface for a program, ex. buttons you can click.
CLI: Command line interface, the command prompt.
Hard / Soft - Reboot / Restart: A hard reboot is to power off the computer by pressing the physical power interface key, until power is lost then toggle the machine on again. A soft reboot is to use the GUI to select the option to restart the computer.
