Welcome to Freshman English!
This year we will read some GREAT stories: The Odyssey and Romeo and Juliet. We will read several short stories by Edgar Allen Poe and other authors.
You will also get to choose books YOU want to read. Instead of writing book reports, we will meet and conference about your book. One of my favorite activities is the Book in a Box project at the end of the year. You'll also get to make a speech, do some journaling and other forms of writing, and build your vocabulary. I LOVE giving students choice as much as possible, so for one cumulative activity, you choose which projects you would like to do!
It is REALLY important that you stay on top of your assignments and NOT GET BEHIND! Turn assignments in when they are due. Much of our work will be posted on Google Classroom. In class you will be given a code to join the class. Announcements and assignments will be posted there. Many assignments will be submitted there as well.
Oh...and one other REALLY important thing to watch out for...my pet peeve in writing is when students do not capitalize the word, "I." Failing to do this on an assignment can cost you 30% of your grade! (So on a 10 point assignment, if you missed 2 points AND forgot to capitalize at least one "I," then you would lose another 3 points, making your score 5/10.
