Section 3: Day to Day Operations: Outside Your Truck focuses on the crucial tasks drivers perform when outside the cab of their vehicle as part of their daily workflow. This section details several essential skills and procedures, including 1)Pre-trip Inspections, which involve systematic checks of various areas of the truck and trailer using an "Integrity Check" focusing on cracks in steel, punctures in hoses, loose fittings, and leaks, as well as wheel and tire inspections; 2)Coupling/Uncoupling procedures for connecting and disconnecting the tractor and trailer safely and securely; Proper use of the 5th Wheel Slide for adjusting weight distribution and maneuverability; the vital process of 3)Securing Cargo/Freight; and conducting 4)Post-trip and Mid-trip Inspections to ensure continued safety and identify potential issues during a journey.
