Academic & Career Planning
What is ACP?
Academic and Career Planning (ACP) is a student-driven, adult-supported program in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for post-secondary success, obtained through self-discovery, career exploration, and the development of academic management and planning skills. During BVA's uniquely-structured advisory system, students in grades 6-12 will participate in the following:
Career/Post-Secondary Planning: Activities which help students answer the questions, "Who am I? Where am I going? And how do I get there?"
Technology Orientation/Acclimation/Integration: As a virtual school, personalized technology is central to almost everything we do at BVA.
Social & Emotional Learning Activities: Activities which encourage students to become more aware of their own behaviors and mindsets, and to develop healthy habits for success both in and out of the classroom.
Community Building: BVA fosters a sense of belonging by encouraging students to participate in a variety of activities designed to increase connections with our academic community.
What does ACP look like at BVA?
Every BVA student is assigned an advisor. Each student will have the same advisor 6-8 and 9-12; siblings in the same grade levels usually have the same advisor to facilitate communication between parents, students, and BVA. ACP/advisory meets each week for 55 minutes. Students will work with peers and BVA staff members to complete ACP activities throughout the year.
