1st Week of School
3rd Grade Buzz 🐝
We’ve wrapped up our very first full week of school, and what a buzz-worthy week it’s been! The kids are settling into our routines, building our hive community, and showing so much excitement for learning. We’re off to a sweet start, and we couldn’t “bee” more proud of the effort, kindness, and positivity we've seen already!
🌟 Shout Outs
Every Thursday (during a full week of school), two students in each elementary class and one student in each encore class will be recognized with a Shout Out Award. These awards celebrate the golden qualities of our students—things like effort, respect, cooperation, and accountability. Just like bees in a hive, every child’s unique strengths make our community stronger. Many times, this recognition helps students notice those special qualities in themselves that they might not have realized before.
🔬 STEM Friday
Fridays are extra buzzing with excitement! Students who complete their classwork and 8 Lexia units and 10 DreamBox lessons during the week will get to join in on STEM Friday. This is a hands-on, collaborative time where kids get to explore, build, and create with STEM materials. During the week, students have designated class time and WIN Time to work toward this goal, so everyone has the chance to reach it.
We are so excited to keep buzzing along as a hive—growing, learning, and celebrating together. It’s going to “bee” an amazing year full of growth, reflection, and discovery!
🦖 Digging Into Fossils in 3rd Grade! 🦕
Today our scientists had so much fun stepping into the role of paleontologists during our PLTW Fossils activity. Students carefully brushed away “sediment” to uncover hidden fossils, just like real scientists do in the field. Once uncovered, they worked together to observe, compare, and sort the fossils based on their characteristics.
This hands-on experience brought our learning to life—helping us understand how fossils give clues about plants and animals from long ago. The excitement on their faces as they made discoveries was priceless!
We’re not just learning about Earth’s history—we’re experiencing it! 🌍🔎
💛 Goodies for Grands 💛
What a special morning we had celebrating our amazing grandparents! Our third graders were so proud to welcome their “Grands” into the classroom and share a peek into their school day. Together they enjoyed sweet treats, laughter, and some fun STEM Friday activities.
It was such a joy to see grandparents and grandchildren learning, creating, and smiling side by side. These moments remind us how important family connections are to our classroom community. 💕
Thank you to all of our wonderful Grands who joined us—you made this day unforgettable!
