Week of May 10th

Hello (Bonjour):

Happy Mother's Day! I celebrated the day at home with my daughter-in-law, my son and one of my daughters. I missed seeing my other family members but we are all being safe at home. In France they celebrate Mother's Day too, it's called "la Fête des Mères" and they say : "bonne fête des mères" ! In France, Mother's Day is plural (Mothers' Day). In France it is the last Sunday in May.

Below I post some vocabulary words and a poem about Mother's Day. These will help you follow along with the videos.

Mother’s Day French Vocabulary

  1. Maman or mère = mom or mother

  2. une fille = a girl, a daughter

  3. une belle-mère = both mother-in-law and step-mother

  4. bonne fête (des mères) Maman = happy (mother’s) day Mom

  5. j’ai un cadeau pour toi = I have a present for you

  6. un collier de nouilles / de pates = a pasta necklace

  7. une poterie = a pottery

  8. un dessin = a drawing

  10. une carte de voeux = a greeting card

  11. un petit-déjeuner au lit = breakfast in bed

  12. je t’aime Maman = I love you Mom

  13. Tu es la meilleure des mamans = you’re the best mom

Transcript of the French Mother’s Day Poem

Ma main est une fleur

Mes doigts sont les cinq pétales

Dis moi jolie petite fleur

Est-ce que ma maman

M’aime de tout son coeur ?

Elle m’aime un peu, beaucoup,

Passionnément, à la folie,

Pas du tout.

Pas du tout ??

Vilaine petite fleur !

Je sais que ma maman

M’aime de tout son coeur !

Translation of the French Mother’s Day Poem

My hand is a flower

My fingers are the five petals

Tell me pretty flower

Does my Mom love me with all her heart ?

She loves me a little, a lot,

Passionately, madly,

Not at all.

Not at all ??

Naughty little flower!

I know my mom

Loves me with all her heart!

Week of May 4th

Bonjour:

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I loved getting photos of some of the drawings the kids were working on. Please feel free to keep sending them if you wish. This week I know is Blue Spirit Week so I thought it would be fun to learn about the color blue. Blue sounds almost the same in English as it does in French. Bleu in French. Blue is the color of the sky and of the ocean water. It is one of my favorite colors. I eat blueberries. The cookie monster is blue. My favorite bird is a blue jay. My house is blue. I have a room in my house that is called the blue room because it has many objects in it that are blue. I also want to teach about some body parts, family members and feelings. I posted some videos below.

French videos:

Here is a coleurs video link to learn your colors.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzR_d6uJkb8

Here is a french video about the fable the Tortoise and the Hare--look at it and see if you can see all the things that are blue in the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQx-1AKyCq0

Here is a video to learn body parts, family members and feelings:

If you want pick a room in your house and see how many objects you can find that are blue.

ART! Friday 4/24/20

Hi Nursery,

Rain, rain go away, come again another day....

With all the rainy days we've been having, something tells me you've all been singing this song A LOT :)

This week, you'll have some raindrops in your artwork, too! In pencil, please trace these raindrops along the dashed line. When you finish tracing each raindrop, number it in the center (so, the first raindrop you trace will be 1, the second raindrop you trace will be 2, and so on). How many raindrops are there?

When you are finished tracing, please color in the clouds, making sure to color AROUND the raindrops! What color are rain clouds?

When you are finished coloring in the clouds, please color in the sky, making sure to color AROUND the raindrops AND the clouds. What color(s) have you seen in a stormy sky?

Completed sheets are due on Friday, 5/8. If you have any questions I will be checking emails Mondays and Fridays until 3pm.

Hi Nursery!

Your last assignment was April Showers, so your new assignment is....May Flowers! Naturally:)

Let's turn those raindrops into flower petals. Please trace the dashed lines to complete the drawing of your flowers. When you are finished tracing, you may color the flowers however you like!

If you have any questions, I will be checking email until 3pm today, and MWF next week.
