Music Theory
(Composition + Production)
(Composition + Production)
Students in this class will study composition, arranging, scoring, and production techniques and approaches. Over the course of this class, students will apply those skills and concepts by writing for and overseeing the production of a wide variety of instrumental, vocal, acoustic, and electronic combinations. Students will explore contemporary concepts and techniques of arranging and sound production and will gain valuable experience by being able to create, arrange, and produce projects using Logic Pro on MIDI workstations in the Music Room. Interpersonal and other situational skills will be developed as the students work with performers and "clients" (i.e., instructors and other students) in a variety of creative settings as music writers and producers.
In order to facilitate an organized and methodical block, this class focuses on three elements every session. Doing this assures that students are properly introduced to class concepts, given independent time to work with these ideas individually, and provided with an opportunity to share and discuss their efforts with one another.
LESSONS: Through weekly in class tutorials and discussions, students will be introduced to the techniques, concepts, and tools needed to produce their own musical ideas.
ACTIVITIES: The majority of the class period is dedicated to independent composition and production time, where students will be able to put to practice the ideas presented in lessons, through producing original music in exercises, and individual projects. Teachers will provide one-on-one critique and direction.
LISTENING: At the close of each class, students will be given an opportunity to share their latest compositions and works in progress, during a listening session where their fellow classmates are invited to offer reactions and/or suggestions.
