Assessment

Students are assessed on an ongoing basis through all assignments and activities, including, hands-on work, group collaboration, personalized tasks, written assignments, traditional tests, presentations, projects, ongoing observations, and one-on-one interactions. Our process is based on formative assessments and regular feedback that move students forward and cultivate growth over time. one-on-one conversations, observations, and Every activity is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their mastery of the learning outcomes of the course, as well as other related skills and proficiency. A summative assessment is reported formally on progress reports that are regularly distributed throughout the year. The grade is determined using the quantitative and qualitative data gathered during the assessment process.

Bridges recognizes that all students are individuals, and that differing learning profiles may make certain forms of assessment more appropriate for certain students. Students at Bridges tend to have learning profiles and social-emotional needs that differ substantially. Because this is so, assessment in English Nine often varies from student to student, and it should be further noted that within these tasks expectations vary from student to student.

Students are assessed through their participation in classroom work and activities such as:

  • peer editing tasks
  • grammar work
  • note-taking

They are assessed through independent and group work such as:

  • classroom presentations
  • formal and creative writing tasks
  • vocabulary practice and quizzes
  • reading discussion questions
