Microsoft supported initiative linking neurodiverse talent to jobs.  "The Neurodiversity Career Connector features job listings by U.S. employers seeking applicants with autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia and other conditions associated with neurodivergent, or atypical, brain functioning."

Google supported initiative providing scholarships, job fairs, and internship opportunities.  "We are a global not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that's rebranding disability through achievement. We do that by attracting, preparing, and connecting these high potential individuals for scholarships, The Lime Connect Fellowship Program, The Lime Connect Foundations Program, and internships and full-time careers with our corporate partners - the world's leading corporations."

Recruiters,  Placement, and Support

CAI matches talent to careers by replacing the traditional interview process through "an extensive hands-on evaluation, so candidates can showcase their talents in a supportive environment. Specially trained recruiters carefully match candidate talents with employer needs to ensure integration and provide support for ongoing success."  Fill out the contact form at the bottom of the page to start the process.

California DOR Student Services.  The California Department of Rehabilitation supplies support for young people (16-21) with disabilities seeking to begin their careers. "DOR Student Services are activities that support you in exploring and preparing for the world of work. Services are based on your interests – you could try a bunch of activities, or just a few."

California Regional Centers provide transitional support for clients leaving high school, seeking careers, or needing help accessing adult services.  Full transitional and adult services--including their Paid Internship Program can be found here.  Call your service coordinator or local office and ask about transitional services including the Paid Internship Program (PIP) for more information.

Mentra provides support and mentorship.  They allow job seekers the opportunity to apply once for multiple jobs and facilitate online resume creation to highlight talents.  Sign up here.

Specialisterne provides placement and training to help employees find a good fit and support for beginning a new position.  Specialisterne supports candidates and positions available in Canada and the US.  You can see open positions and submit a general application here.

Workforce Recruitment Program. This government effort matches government and private employers with recent graduates seeking work.  Available to "Current, full-time undergraduate or graduate students with disabilities, and recent graduates who received a postsecondary degree on or after April 1, 2020 from a U.S. accredited college or university, are eligible to apply for WRP in fall 2022. Students can be taking a part-time course load if they meet certain criteria. Candidates must be U.S. citizens who are eligible for the federal Schedule A Hiring Authority."  If your college does not participate in WRP, share this information with your career office.  You may be eligible for a Schedule A hiring authority if you have had an IEP or 504 or been "diagnosed with a medical condition that is treated by a mental health professional such as a learning disability, attention deficit disorder, anxiety disorder, etc."  For more on Schedule A, see below.

Community Colleges are affordable options that provide associates degrees and certificate programs in many fields including: aviation maintenance, air traffic control, electronics technology, A+/Net+ Certification, court reporting,  CAD drafting, C/C++, cosmetology, criminal justice administration, computer programming and systems specialties, construction, dental hygiene, fashion design, fire technology, GIS, mechanical engineering technology, graphic design, business management, property management, real estate, child development (toddler/preschool/special education ass't teacher), HVAC, welding, EMT training, respiratory therapy, media arts, music, radiologic technology, anesthesia technology, stagecraft, and more.

Many industries have apprenticeship opportunities!  Learn more about apprenticeships here.  You can search for apprenticeships in a number of fields (cybersecurity, plumbing, IT, hydraulic technicians, pastry, etc) through the national listings on the site. The Uniquely Abled Project trains young adults with autism to be CNC Machinists.  They also have a jobs program for those interested in repetitive tasks in the machinist industry.

NDTech is a summer internship program available to young adults with ASD that is run out of UC San Diego. "Our interns work in teams as programmers, project managers, artists, and designers with the aid of a peer coach to develop an educational or research-based video game."  Interns must hold a high school diploma and be able to commute to UCSD during the summer months.  This is a stipended opportunity.
