Baseball lingo

  • A.L. - American league abbreviation
  • American League - American half of Major League Baseball
  • Baseball World Classic - Where different countries face off in a baseball tournament
  • Base - Where runners are safe if they are on it
  • Base path - The boundaries that runners have to stay in when running
  • Bat - The object hitters use to hit the ball
  • Batter - The person who hits the ball
  • Call - Whether the runner is out or safe, or if it is a ball or strike
  • Designated hitter - The player who only bats
  • Division - A section to break up the teams
  • Dugout - Where players sit during the game
  • ESPN - A sports broadcasting channel (All property belongs to ESPN)
  • Extra innings - A tie breaker, also known as overtime in other sports
  • Fielder - The person who picks up the ball
  • Home plate - The plate that runners need to touch to score
  • MLB - Major League Baseball abbreviation
  • MVP - Most Valuable Player abbreviation
  • N.L. - National league abbreviation
  • National league - National half of Major League Baseball
  • Out - When players don't succeed at getting to a base
  • Pitcher - The person who throws the ball to the batter
  • Roster - The players on a team
  • Run - What it is called when a runner scores
  • Safe - When the runner isn't out
  • Slugger - A person who hits a lot of home runs
  • Strike - When the pitch is accurate
  • Umpire - The person who calls the calls (Referee)
