Howdy. I'm a little goofy. Hope you're cool with that. :)
My name is Benjamin Earl Obi-Wan Lewis, Esq. III and I am a social studies teacher in Brenham, TX. I have two degrees from Blinn (Art and History) and I received a bachelor's degree in History with a double minor (Art and Business) from Texas State University. I received Teacher of the Year honors in 2011, was nationally recognized by the National Council of Geographic Education as a distinguished geography teacher in 2020, have organized the Brenham National Geographic Bee, present at the Texas Google Summit, travel the world with my students through EF Tours ...and can smoke one heck of a Texas beef brisket!
"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page." -Saint Augustine #DareYouToMove
I have traveled to England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, the Yucatan, France, Australia, Switzerland, Fiji, New Zealand, Spain, Greece, Germany, Vatican City, Vietnam, South Korea, the Netherlands, Argentina, Qatar, China, Jamaica, Austria, Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, and Polynesia (Eastern Kiribati) as well as all throughout the United States (from Maine to Hawaii and lots in between). I have brought students to Europe to explore the cities of Rome, Pompeii, Venice, Paris, Versailles, and London as well as a US presidential inauguration. Also, I am pleased to report I am halfway to my goal of teaching youngsters on all six inhabited continents. I bring to class tales of interesting people, exotic places, and amazing cultures!
I am very passionate about the subjects I teach. This means I enjoy a great sense of pride and responsibility when it comes to teaching children about their world. In short, I love my job!
I am a huge supporter of personal technology in the classroom and actively promote the use of Instagram and Google applications (Earth, Maps, etc.) to help children learn and stay connected to their educations, even when outside the walls of Brenham Middle School. The world is changing! Embrace it!
