About Class

6th Grade science and social studies is all about the miraculous, wonderful, unique, floating sphere that is your world. In my class we will discuss and learn what it means to be us. We study humanity, various governing styles, world religions, international culture and cuisine, and world history. We contemplate space and time, universal elements, and the building blocks of life as we know it. It is my hope that by learning about the world, you will better understand and appreciate your very important place in this ever-changing planet. Students deserve to be taught what they need.

In social studies, we start with grand concepts and quickly move inward. The continents and culture regions of the earth will all be covered in the first six weeks alongside the history and culture of the USA. We will then move onto Canada, Mexico, Central America, and so on. We’ll spend similar time on every region of the planet, covering about 95% of the world’s nations. The end of the year is capped by a final PBL project where students will create their own countries and share a world with their peers.

Grades consist of daily assignments, participation, projects, and tests. I will hand out a study guide on every unit we cover. If you lose your copy, feel free to visit the “Study Guides” section of this website to print an extra one.

We will have a wonderful time this year and I can’t wait to take you guys around the world.
